I moved to California from Washington a couple years ago. My first impressions of driving in CA was that I made the mistake of stopping at a Yellow light and almost got rear-ended by about 3 cars behind me who stepped on the gas instead of the brake. That inspired me to write the following after I took the driver's test and became a CA driver. Now, I drive sensibly and speed through the yellows like everyone else. I have seen the light. ;) ************************************************************************** Some example questions from the california driver's exam: 1. You are approaching a stop light when the light turns yellow. You are two seconds from the intersection at your current speed. What do you do? a) slow down and stop b) keep driving at your same speed c) downshift and punch it 2. You are passing a line of 3 cars following an RV driven by senior citizens. You are about halfway through your pass when you see an approaching car 7 seconds away. What do you do? a) slow down and pull back where you were b) try to squeeze your way into the middle of the line c) downshift and punch it 3. You are approaching a railroad crossing when the signals start to flash and the crossing gates start to come down. You are two seconds from the intersection at your current speed. What do you do? a) slow down and stop b) keep driving at your same speed c) downshift two gears and punch it 4. You are driving along an LA freeway when a '67 Nova full of crypts pulls along side you and starts waving guns. Do you? a) slow down and stop b) keep driving at your same speed c) downshift and punch it 5. You should not drive faster than 65 mph in which of the following areas? a) On a remote stretch Northern California freeway b) On the city streets c) In the parking lot If you answered 'C' to all of the above questions, congratulations! You have what it takes to be a California driver. You get bonus points if you recognized that question #5 was really a trick question and you did not mark any bubbles. You would then be eligible for your cab driver's license. :) Dave
